This might be a dumb question, but will a Sound Blaster PCI 512 run under an AMD K-7 550MHZ processor? The reason I asked is because I've tried installing Sound Blaster Live!, but it didn't work. Which lead to my friend telling me that AMD chips are not compatible with Sound Blaster sound cards. I plan to buy Sound Blaster PCI 512 so I would be able to load soundfonts. Any feed back is appreciated.

hey read my post SB pci512...static distortion driving me nuts!?! I'm not sure about the amd thing (I've running one too)but this sound I'm getting sucks!
There is "slight" problem with SB Live! cards running on boards with 686A/B south bridge (most of KT133/A boards, but some AMD760+686A/B too). Dudes at VIA are aware of it, and currently the issue is being fixed with BIOS updates.
I haven't personally used SB512, but you guys are not alone, if it helps http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif , I saw plenty of posts about static and general crashes with SB512, so maybe it's bad soundcard, maybe it's the mobos, maybe they both. But ComputerChild, please tell you friend he's wrong, at least couple of dozens AMD based comps passed me on their way to happy customers, all with SB Live!/Value, and all the issues (if any happened) were fixed by newer drivers/BIOS updates.
Don't give up, but if you do, go for SB128 if you're on tight budget, or SB Live!/Value if you can afford it. Besides, not only Creative cards are out there, Phillips and Turtle Beach have their line of fine audio products, going head to head with SB Live! ...
Best Regards ...
