No Sound Please Help

I do not have any sound. I have a keyboard with the volume control buttons and an onscreen volume bar. My volume is at 2, which is the lowest. There is no volume icon on the taskbar and no volume control under accessories. My sound recorder has also quit working at the same time. All cables are fine.

I can hear a thump in the speaker when booting up. I have reinstalled multimedia on Windows 98 and I have run SFC and Scan registry restore. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Right click on "my computer".
Click "properties"
Click "device manager"
Click "sound video and game controllers"
Click once on your sound card.
Click "remove"
Reboot and windows should reinstall the driver for it. If that doesnt work, there are a few more things you can try. Let me know.
