I recentely built my first system.

DFI, Socket 7, AGP, MOBO
AMD K-2 350mz
Nividia TNT2 Video card
256 mb PC100 memory

The problem I am having is puzzling. I am running Win98. No error messages upon boot up, everything looks good. You can load up and play a game any game, C&C Red Alert, Rollercoaster Tycoon, etc. But you can only play one game and if you switch game from (example) C&C to Rollercoaster. The second game tried will not initilize or errors out. When you reboot the game will play perfectely. It does not matter which game is played first. These games are only examples. I have tried different games. Memory is good. All connection have been checked. Bottom line is you have to reboot in order to change games. I am puzzled. Can any one help. Thanks so much. I forgot to add I am using directx 8.0.

Charmler may be offering a fix. Can't tell till you try, I think. Could be that there is a driver for a piece of hardware that does not get along with certain programs...

Reboot may be your real fix, ala Codybear.

PS: I'll watch this thread as well... Curious, though I've used certain programs (graphic intensive desktop publishing or heavy java stuff) and if I didn't reboot right after, my computer was guaranteed to freeze up! (600E PIII with 128 MB PC100 SDRAM -- I've since converted to Athlon Thunderbirds). Bottom line, I think it's a software problem.
