Colleagues, tough one:

Iwill Socket A KK266 mobo
Socket A T-Bird 1.2Ghz
GeForce 32DDR AGP card
512 MB PC133 SDRAM (2 sticks 256 MB)
IBM ATA100 HD
CDROM / CDRW

Now, the HS/Fan assembly:

- Had FOP32 on socket A
- Socket "nub" broke so HS wouldn't clasp onto it any longer;

Purchased / installed Swiftech HS, which screws onto mobo (there are 4 pre-drilled) holes surrounding socket to do this. I used 4 brass/copper standoffs screwed into mobo sitting on nylon shoulder washers as uncertain if holes were grounded. Secured standoffs with nylon nuts on bottom of mobo. Screwed heatsing onto standoffs over cpu, then attached fan to heatsink. Plugged in HS fan cable, replaced all cards, put mobo in box, recabled, powered up: no beep, but got HD LED, CD LEDs, all fans, no signal to monitor: I tried reseating everything, no luck. I don't believe HD was spinning. Any ideas?

Also Reset button does not reset system when I power on... hmm.

Smells like some or all of the power leads coming off the power supply might be bad.

One thing you can do is check the volts and amps coming off the power supply to make sure it isn't the power supply. You've got 5 volt and 12 volt leads you'll want to check. The wrong voltage low and you might not have enough juice to run the processor or hard drive - going high and you might have fried something....

New power supplies out of the box don't always work.... QC might have been asleep at the switch.....

Axel:

I toasted my T-Bird! Ouch. Seems the FOP32 fan/hs assembly popped off when Socket A "nub" holding hs clasp snapped. Oh, man!

retailer is replacing board and chip. Must be arrangement with AMD or Iwill to replace boards and chips when socket breaks due to pressure of single clip heat sink buckles / connectors. I guess they'll design boards differently in the future or warn "only to be used with triple clasp/tab hs/fan assemblies" which by the way I just ordered:

TAISOL : CGK760092 Forged Aluminum Heatsink with Copper Insert 60x10mm 21 CFM Fan low noise "Triple-tab Clip."

Live, burn and learn?

Thx anyway.
