Appreciate some assistance.
Obtained an IBM ThinkPad 760ED without an operating system installed on the hard drive.
Q#1: Is the installation routine for a laptop basically the same as the installation routine for a desktop: bootdisk,
fdisk, format, OS CD install?
Q#2: Are there any forums that deal specifically with laptops (other than IBM for its products), or does this forum address laptop issues as well?

ive seen laptop questions here and there.
just make it clear in the subject you need help with a laptop(which you did for people who know a thinkpad is a laptop) and you should get replies no problem. dont know of any specific laptop forums.
now to the point. you can absolutley do the same install method you use for a pc.
same theory. bootable cd, bootable floppy then use the cd, etc. its your choice
SD
ps. if you dont have a restore cd you might be hitting the ibm website to look for drivers you need when certain hardware isnt detected properly. keep that in mind as well

One more thing to watch for - most laptops (if not all) have a suspend function that lets you save your current 'session' to the hard drive and power down the machine. Most machines will do this automatically if the battery power gets too low. This usually involves a separate partition on the hard drive formatted a special way. Unfortunately, I cannot help you any further on this since my restore CD (supposedly) takes care of this and I have not actually had to do it yet. You might try IBM's site - they may have the necessary software available for download.
S.D. Willie and PassnThru,
Thank you for your replies.
Will keep that info in mind.
Have a good weekend.
