This really makes me mad, who here uses napster? If they have a disclaimer, how is it possible they can be sued?

I use Napster. But I can't say that it "makes me mad" that they're being sued. Come'on dude. Did you even for a second think that maybe they WEREN'T going to get sued. I'm surprised it took the record companies so long to get wise to the situation.

I'm no fan of the recording industry and it's overpriced CD's, overpriced concert tickets, overpriced logo bearing paraphanalia, etc. But there is NO denying that copying music that is copyrighted is not legal. Nor should it be. Who the hell would want to be a musician if you didn't make a ton of money. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

i can listen to the song on the radio or tv, i can even tape it off tv or the radio. In napster's disclaimer, they say that they take no responsibility for doing this stuff, i don't see how that's fare, plus these people make millions of bucks anyway, they should quit their *****ing just live with it

Ah, the old "they make millions anyway, so they should quit their *****ing",

Tell you what buddy, try mentioning the thieving of intellectual property of something other than music, namely software, on this board, and see how many people jump down your throat...

well, they do make millions! i don't care, i don't feel bad stealing from them, i doubt you do either? and if the mp3's that good, i'd probably buy the cd anyway, the only artist who really care about this are the tight wads who i don't listen to anyway, ie puff daddy, creed, and so on.

Just my measily 2 cents here.....
tv and radio are contracted and licensed to be able to play copyrighted media and there are quite a few websites that have gone thru this process so it would be legal for them to present mp3 products and users to be able to download and evaluate whether or not they like it..it is all the illegal sites and mostly the users that have basically been blatant about their activities that pushed napster into the limelight.. it was common knowledge that napster was eventually going to be cited for it, even with their disclaimer in place because of the product's ease of use for potential widespread manupulation...sure a person could copy the media via radio, tv and other ways but you wouldnt find a public or even secret forum where they could get together as a group and sit around these appliances to catch the songs you like and start a trading frenzy that garnered enuff judicial attention that this has LMAO...

yeah, i know your right, but you and I both know that it would be quite hard for anybody to stop the trade of mp3's over the internet, it will happen one way or another, i'm just mad cause i won't be able to steal their music as easily, but hey? what are you going to do? i don't feel bad having mp3's on my computer. i doubt if there are even 3 people on the whole BBS who won't download mp3's because it's theft.
