i have a celery 300 w/128 mb of ram and win 98, and when i listen to winamp, it skips like crazy, on my last computer (cyrix 166 w/64 mb of ram) i never had this problem. I don't have much running either, maybe icq, norton antivirus, and ie 5. I'll just be surfing, doing nother out of the ordinary and winamp will skip, I don't get it. Is there something that's hogging up resources that i don't know of? Cause i disabled as much as i knew i could, please help me,
matt

I never thought I'd meet a person who had the same problem!! It started with me when I upgraded from 64mb RAM to 192 (bought a 128 chip). All of the sudden my music is skipping like crazy anytime I do something. After many, many hours and days on the phone along with a dozen different techies, a high ranking techie finally told me that it was something to do with the Celeron chip. It sometimes has trouble supporting more than a 64 RAM chip (doesn't like 128 I guess). They are probably (still talking with them) going to send me a another 64 inexchange for the 128 and refund me the difference. What a joke! Next time I buy a computer, I'll just not get the kind of processor that Wal-mart and Staples have in their comps to avoid any crappy chips.

Sorry, I don't know if there a fix for this stupid processor...Maybe I should've gotten an AMD...

You could try an older version of Winamp and see if that helps. I've heard that the newer versions are more prone to "skip" than the older versions. I use v2.09 without any problems.
