It is annoying to see the same comp scanning your ip over and over...but, you're safe, and it's likely that he can't even see that there's a comp on your ip. They will probably stop scanning your ip sooner or later. Atleast that's been the case with me. I would just continue to provide the persons ISP with info about them your firewall provides, and they type of attack. But if you do try some sort of counter strike, please, do tell! socalgal 12-22-1999, 05:54 PM shaggy... May I ask, how long have you had Lockdown2000? I had transacted to buy that program once... well, I decided not to. But I am curious as how you find the program to be working. I can direct you to some info on the company you may not have seen, if you are interested... Reporting the hacker to his ISP is the best way to go about "revenge", IMO. Then, see what they do about it.. ANTONIO E GUERRA 12-22-1999, 06:07 PM Perhaps you will like to read this book for entertainment, Clif Stolt, The Cuckoo's Egg. I did enjoy it and learned a lot about Unix machines. seti 12-22-1999, 06:08 PM Ha, interesting drama involving Lockdown 2000 http://www.primenet.com/%7Elippard/pchelp/ Please note that it involves the 2.5 version...the 5.0 version is currently avalible. I'm downloading now....I just want to throw the grc test at it. [This message has been edited by seti (edited 12-22-1999).] BBA 12-22-1999, 06:18 PM I've heard good and very bad things about LockDown2000 and it's author. I'll pass on that one. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif BBA seti 12-22-1999, 06:33 PM I think I'll stick with BID as well, but to each there own http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I like the fact it has a nuke nabber built in...but, doesn't a firewall make that unessisary? Ha, and half of the stuff says it's v4.0 and half says v5.0. If you can't get that right, it makes you wonder about the program. Also the price....$99? wow, BID is $39.95. I'm not bashing the product (Ha, I'd get sued by the company if I did (see link above))...but I like BID. socalgal 12-22-1999, 06:37 PM Yep, that's the link there in Seti's post. This is the guy who nails it. http://www.nwi.net/~pchelp/index.html Antonio, I read that book, it's a great chronicle on the early age of computers and hacking. [This message has been edited by socalgal (edited 12-22-1999).] smokin1 12-22-1999, 08:01 PM I too would just leave them alone...you never know what someone is capable of...IF..your firewall is working they haven't "found" you..if you respond...you are..read all you can and make informed decisions 2c http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Todd Beck 12-22-1999, 11:34 PM Here's a twisted little chain of events: *you retaliate against the person probing you *they've got something like Black Ice, catch you, and report you to your ISP *your ISP bounces YOU off the internet I know it's tempting, but don't do it. BTW, nuke nabber is one of those "evil" port watchers that opens a port to see if something tries to connect to it. If a scanner sees that open port, you've just painted a big target on your computer. Thanks http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif shaggy2dope 12-23-1999, 06:14 AM socalgal- i have had lockdown for a couple months now and works great just think if i didnt have it that hacker would of been successfull KillerBug 12-23-1999, 06:36 AM I remember a while back a program that simulates a hard drive, it takes up something like 100mb of your space, but when a hacker scans you, they find only it, if they decide to invade you, every file on the simulated hard disk contains a boot sector virus! OuTpaTienT 12-23-1999, 10:43 AM LOL. uh, Shaggy, he HAS been successful you dolt. Did you even check out that link? http://www.primenet.com/%7Elippard/pchelp/LDtest.htm You are in NO WAY being protected by LD2000. In fact, you ought to be very embarassed that you even purchased it. And the people who sell it should be in jail as far as I'm concerned. Wake up Shaggy. [This message has been edited by OuTpaTienT (edited 12-23-1999).] socalgal 12-23-1999, 10:57 AM OutPatient... No need to be name calling eh? None of us know something unless we are informed of it somehow.. Better he find out here sooner, than out there later. That's what we're here for... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif seti 12-23-1999, 10:59 AM whoa...ha, just a sec. That page deals with version 2.5. Not the currnet which I imagen shaggy has. I downloaded the demo, and ran the sheilds up test at it...and although the test is somewhat limited (automated), it passed in the same manner BI did. Am I defending an overpriced product with a devious history?..no, I wouldn't do that. I just feel for people that buy before research. The product might not be all that bad, and serve his needs. To each there own. [This message has been edited by seti (edited 12-23-1999).] OuTpaTienT 12-23-1999, 11:38 AM Well, for what it's worth, I mean "dolt" in the same frame of mind that I might use "numbskull" or "nucklehead". Sure it's an insult, but meant more friendly than not. Beleive me, if I wanted to do some name calling, you'd know it. Sheilds Up! test? Ok. I pass that too, & I don't have any specific "security" software. smokin1 12-23-1999, 01:28 PM Before everyone gets warm and fuzzy feelings about how secure their computer is ...go here and give your protection a real workout... http://hackerwhacker.com/ http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif jad1097 12-23-1999, 02:19 PM Went to hackerwacker and ha they wont go through my proxy. I can't even do a test there! seti 12-23-1999, 02:38 PM That's a great site! Thanks smokin!! I'm totally zipped up *fuzzzzzz* smokin1 12-23-1999, 02:58 PM Hey jad1097...disable your proxy and give it a try...proxys don't work ALL the time...ICQ gives out your real IP...and there a lot of web sites that can get it no problem...there is a telnet connection at the site that tells you your real IP... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif ANTONIO E GUERRA 12-23-1999, 04:02 PM I do believe one of the best users of Linux is to create a firewall protection against hackers' attack. If you have an old 486 you can use it as a gateway and firewall using ip masquerading. shaggy2dope 12-23-1999, 05:28 PM thanks for the link, lockdown was a waste of 100 bucks has anyone had luck with version 5.0? seti 12-24-1999, 12:57 AM Ha, I got the dolt bit. Sheilds up shows your ports as closed no? With a firewall you get stealth. SysOpt.com
