I've been screwing my system up SO much, that I've found all kinds of solutions to problems...

Right now my drive is actually quickformatted, and am still working on a way of fixing that (im currently on my internet bootdisk to see this site) - I had been searching for solutions and noticed no one seems to know how to undelete a partition deleted by say, FDISK

If you can find "ranish partition manager" online (its everywhere), run that - apparently programs like fdisk only remove the partition type...basically by hitting "insert" on the partition (with no specified partition type) inside ranish and choosing the partition type it was before it was deleted (ie FAT32), the drive is back to normal (after a reboot of course).

I've found some other tools along the way...if you search online (www.google.com is what I use) for "findfat", you'll get a list of interesting drive utilities on the page that contains that util...including one .SYS driver (i havent tested yet) that apparently assigns drives and gives read only access to lost partitions. The other apps on there work well, but haven't had a practical use for them yet.

Anyway, for an FDISK replacement, check out www.aefdisk.com (http://www.aefdisk.com) - I LOVE it. Some of you may not, however, considering it's all command line.

Hrm, what else I was going to mention...was something extremely strange - I find that some systems incessantly crash for no matter what app you open (or for others, just certain apps) if EMM386.EXE is installed in your config.sys - even if it's not specifying any memory locations (ie DEVICE=EMM386.EXE RAM). I've also noticed that DOS=HIGH,UMB,AUTO with only HIMEM.SYS loaded causes problems as well sometimes.

Weird.
Anyway, see you guys later http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif by the time I get my system up and running again (with or without my data back) I'll probably have forgotten this url, so feel free to contact me if you have any questions about what I've just said.

Oh, and if you DO know any way to recover from a quickformat (and no, don't say norton unerase...it crashes at about 80%) - let me know.
