I was in my system config/startup and saw all the things running and wondered what some of these were.I know all the Mcafee ones I can't touch but what about scan registry, task monitor, system tray, load power profile(its in there 2x),comsmdexe(no idea what this is) and the rest I know. Could someone please tell me what these are and if I can turn any off. BTW how come when you register here they ask you if you want to have a signature but there's nowhere to apply it? Just wondering

well, technically you can turn off all that Macafee junk http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif scan registry checks to make sure the registry is fine and if somethign whent wrong last time it will load the last working reg...to my knowledge it just runs at startup and doesnt run during windows....so i would leave it there.
-YES, turn off task monitor. go into msconfig and turn that little rat off.
-systray is your sytem tray...some people say it doesnt affect your system if you turn it off, but they also dont see any pay off for it in the form of resources....
as for the load power profile and the other im not sure...but im sure someone will jump in here http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

one of the power profiles you can turn off if you dont use the powersaving stuff in windows like turn off hard drive's and moniter you can turn them both off
as for the other stuff I turn every thing off but
scan registry
sys tray
asus probe ( thats my mobo moniter )
scroll mouse
stillimagemoniter (for my scanner )
and rain
thats all that I load at start up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
if that's any help http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
as for Macafee's if your running the full version it takes up to 30meg's of memery at startup so I only run it when I'm downloading stuff or using a disk from some one else's computer it's a pain but I have not had a system crash in month's http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
