it's been awhile since i posted in Technical Support. here goes:
a few days ago i put in a brand new diamond mx300 soundcard and ever since i installed, (with no problems installing) enything i do related to gaming or playing movies freezes my system. so i decided to do some testing. i uninstalled everything related to my soundcard and played serious sam, half life, and watched some movies and everything was fine but mind you, without sound. so than i installed the soundcard again and i the usual low resource tasks work, like using winamp and browsing the web but when i try to play counterstrike or serious sam, the game would freeze on me (same goes with watching a movie file).

specs:

amd t-bird 800mhz not OC
via k7v mobo
tnt 32 pro
diamond mx300
256mb pc133 infineon ram
54x cdrom
30g ibm deskstar (not sure about the rpm)

thanks in advance.

more specs:

start up programs include
rain
rambooster
zone alarm
black ice defender
norton antivirus 2k
mbprobe (avg temp inside case 33C, processor 27C)

also like to add that i recently replaced my old 2 speaker system with altec lansing acs54 system. so i disabled my onboard sound and installed the mx300 soundcard.

Could be a rescource conflict or bad card. Have you tried another sound card or a different slot. My K7V doesn't like the NIC in slot 2.
