upload on a 56k is typically 33.6 can be lower depending on your connection but, never higher.remember this is in direct relation to the condition of your phone lines, how busy the server is,how good an isp you are connected to,and how busy they are.As far as your connection speed being reported at 115k this is usually due to an incorrect setting in the modem properties or most common incorrect drivers for this modem.

There is really no 'normal' modem speed, it's all relevant!

You 'connection' speed is just an indicator of the quality of the data path you are on. The actual 'download' speed is generally maxxed at 1/9 of the connection speed. This is due to the overhead of the TCP/IP protocol.

With a 56K modem, u will not see better than 10-11K/SEC ACTUAL download rates.

I have two questions.
1. I have a 56k modem that for example logs on at 40k or 44k, but that is only the download speed. What is the upload speed, could it be at 12k and I don't even know it. Before I had a 33k modem, sometimes it could log on at 19k.

2. I also have a v90 56k modem and same with my brother. When it log on above 33k, it just states 115k which is the max compress data transfer. What is even worse now is I don't know if it is logged on at 36k, 40k, 44k or etc.

Thanks
David

Relating to the 115k hookup speed. You know that this not your hookup speed. If you run win 95-98 double click on the modem box in the lower right hand corner of the bottom bar and it will tell you the speed and how many byts you have uploaded and how many downloaded.
