I just purchased a new Maxtor 20 gig, 7200 RPM drive and also the above mentioned card. I installed the card in the PCI slot and attached the hard drive from IDE 1 to the card and upon bootup I get the message " hard drive failure" The card is recognized on startup as I reattched the drive to IDE 1 and I can see that it looks for a drive. It is kind of funny in that when the hard drive failure message appears I have the option of striking delete for BIOS or F1 to continue bootup. When I choose the F1 option the card then recognizes the drive but then hangs on verifying DMI. Anyone have any thoughts as to how to make this work? The system is ABIT BX-6 ver. 2 with Celleron 366 running 98SE. The card is seen in Device Manager and states it is running properly using IRQ 12.

Did you disable the onboard IDE controllers on your motherboard??

ragtop Yes I tried that also and got the same result. I still have the CD connected to IDE 2. Device Manager lists the card as a SCSI device and I have tried booting to that option as well.

Are you sure the cables are hooked up the right way? If you have one backwards it can do some funny things.
