I have an nec, 433 mhz computer, 64mb ram 8.4 gig hard drive, win98.. I have a liteon301 cdrom, i think it is 32x.
my problem is, i used to be able to rip songs, with any program. but now, all the programs say my drive cannot be read digitally. then they switch to analog and do not let me rip.
anyone with any ideas feel free to email me

Do you install, or download anything or change any of your settings before you got that error?
Also right click "my computer" and then go into properties, hardware, device manager.
You can then click on the CD-ROM that you have and check if its working, if not windows should help fix it.

i may have but then i reinstalled win 98 and thought that would fix it. windows says its working fine with no errors, it plays games ok and music cds fine except for the ripping\playing in analog problem

check No. 176 on list. I am not sure why you cannont use analog, but it explains your problem with digital ripping.
You need a drive from further up the list. Many of them are still quite cheap.
good luck

hey krusty, there is no problem with my analog, analog is the problem, instead of being read digitally, the cd players and rippers and stuff switch my drive to analog.... i need to know how to keep my drive being read digitally, but thanks anyway http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

If you check that link you will see that that drive (lite on 30....whatever) is hopeless at digital audio extraction(DAE) & that if you are serious about wanting to rip digital audio you need a different drive.
Don't want to make it sound hopeless but I had one of those & the only way I could get quality DAE was a different CD ROM.
Again, good luck.

ok well if it is hopeless, which at this point i dont doubt, could you tell me why it used to be able to but cant now, was it just a failure or the drive or what, so i can try to prevent it from happening on a new drive, if possible thanks

hey krusty, if you read this maybe you will know.
i have had winamp a long time, and never used the avs because my computer sucks at keeping up with the music with the avs..... anyway, i noticed that winamp can use the avs while i am playing cds, whats different about that is that windows media player says that since it cannot read my drive digitally, it cannot use avs. does that mean that winamp reads the drive digitally?
could it be somthing like a driver problem or something like that ? lol i know nothing about drivers and such, that is why i ask, well if you or anyone else has an idea about that it would be appreciated
