I need the collective advise of the community. My father is 80 and having some difficulty manipulating a standard mouse. I have it set to single click but still ends up with lots of icon copies etc on his desktop (he's a bit shakey). What kind of options are available for him? System settings I'm not aware of? Different mouse? Any/all suggestions would certainly be appreciated. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Have you tried a track-ball??

Also - have you tried simply changing the screen-resolution to the largest possible so that all of the icons are larger and easier to hit, so to speak.

Settings - control panel - mouse - change the settings here to slow down the speed and do some shadowing so the pointer leaves a trail. Also - make the pointer larger and solid for easy visibility as well

You might also look here for ideas http://www.dpi.org - I didn't find much, but only looked for a few moments.

Hope that helps

I have talked to him about a track ball and I've tried a couple myself. I think the added stability of it being stationary would help. I have changed all the mentioned settings and gained about all the advantage available from there.

Thanks for the dpi link, I might post something there too. Thx Axel http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

In the display options, under apperance, you can make the icons and thier titles humoungous as you so choose.

I'm not sure if it's still available, but MicroSpeed's "PC Trac" trackball is great.
Large ball, large buttons, and third button that locks an item for dragging. Just click it & roll the ball w/o holding the button. A friend of mine who had severe carpal tunnel recommended it to me, it was the only one that was really usable for him. At the time, he could barely hold a pencil, yet used it while taking cadd engineering course, doing advanced precision work.
