I was thinking of getting a 3Dfx Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card for my computer. The question is that will if ONLY improve graphics for my games or what? Take it easy on me...I don't have much experience (ok - none) with 3d accelerator cards. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Alot of it depends on the rest of your system (mostly CPU, RAM, and monitor) for the video subsystem. Tha grafix card is still teh most essential part of a good video system.
Let us know what kind of CPU, and monitor u have, and how much RAM.

The 3D accelerator will mostly improve the graphics and help the game to run faster, since now instead of letting the computer's CPU to do all the heavy work of drawing and doing the math the card will help it out and make its part of job incredibly good.

Of course as AuraEdge stated the speed of your CPU, ram, your computer in general also makes a difference.

Here's my specs:

15" monitor

Thanks for your input!

Hi

What's your existing video card ?

You have a 15" monitor... So, I guess the max resolution you will play your games at is 1024x768...
A voodoo 3 2000 PCI is, I think, a good choice...

A voodoo3 2000 will give you good performance and make games look far better than the software render mode (aka non-accelerated mode).

Besides you can always overclock the card http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Just remeber the v2-3 can't do 32-bit, limited to 256x256 textures and it's a bit weak on OpenGL. But still they are fast, blazinf fast.

V3 2K is good, but I think a $80 TNT2 M64 with 32M will blow away that V3, I just put a couple in a few PC's and those things are amazing for the cost! Much better performance than a V3, and everyone I tried clocked to 150/150 with no extra cooling with 100% reliability.

Just a thought http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

A better card for less - all right! Where can I find some information about it? I went to the Creative Labs website and couldn't find the "TNT2 M64" model. Help?

Just can't stress enough about the support you guys are giving me. I never expressed much interest in 3d cards because I didn't know about them, but know I do. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey, you guys are cool http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. Thanks a lot for the help. If it helps any, I've got a pathetic 2mb video card that came with the system.

Thanks again!

The move from a 1mb S3 Trio64 to a 16mb TNT totally blew me away.
Hope it does the same for u!
I dont really care much for 32 bit or anything, but big detailed textures are a huge plus on my list...thats why I wouldnt like to use a V3. But to each his own http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. The V3 2000 is by no means a poor card...Im just real picky http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

128mb of ram will be fine for gaming. (192 is better, but the difference between the two are miniscule).
