I do not have a AGP port and want to invest in a video card. I understand that the AGP are further advanced then PCI, Anyone have suggestions on a reasonable video card? I am running a E3000 gateway, 233mhz, 128mb ram. On all the new games on the market the system requirements sure are demanding. I just want to try to stretch this unit out as far as possible for my son, and try to give him more gaming without investing Mega $

This system is relatively weak for today's games's min specs.

If you want to invest only for a video card, then try digging stores for a PCI Voodoo 3-4-5 card. Nvidia and ATI cards are good, but they require much processing power that the 233 probably won't be able to supply.

skuz,
Regarding your reply I realize now the cpu might not be powerful enough to handle certain cards. So what might be a good way to determine what the best card would be considering the cpu? I do not want to purchace something and find out it was just a waste of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Jkac, as I wrote, ATI and Nvidia cards are very CPU intensive. 3dfx cards are (were) the best video upgrade for "slow" systems as they use much less CPU power.

You'll definitely see a big improvement using a Voodoo card with your system.

I would go for the 3DFX VOODOO 4 4500 32MB

Cheep and worth the money for this PCI system.

I ran a Gateway E-3000 board for awhile and it's a sweet board. It only supports up to 233MMX on Intel but it will run an AMD K6-2 400MHz cpu at 400. Skip AGP! The AGP bus is being dropped in the next generation of boards due out in the next year or so. Too buggy. Get a good PCI card. I don't game so I can't recommend one in particular but, I hear Nvidia and Voodoo a lot on the boards.

PS I bought four of the Gateway E-3000 towers originally. I'm running my Chaintech Pentium III board in the tower on the original power suppley. My wife now has an Asus P5A in her E-3000 tower with an AMD K6-2 550MHz CPU. Friends bought the other two and did similar upgrades and swear by the tower.

Voodoo 2,3 PCI or a Tnt 2 PCI, these cards are very cheap to pickup now days. If you want a bit more power you could also get 2 Voodoo 2's and run them in SLI. This is basically running the 2 cards with a loopback cable between them. Voodoo 2 in SLI have been known to be TNT 2 killers (sorry, faster) and Voodoo 2's are dirt cheap at the moment.

Arnoldlleerch,
You are saying that i can run a 400mhz AMD cpu in the place of the 233? That would be great! As far as vert says I can hook two vooodoos together? That is definatly a thought. Though I have never done anything like that before.

sixpac says the 3DFX voodoo 4 4500 32 mb. Any suggestions on where to buy these voodoo cards at the best price?

Regarding the processor that is also something I want to find out more about.
A few ?'s 1st, Would I have to change anything besides the cpu, Like jumpers, etc.
Where might be the best deal on these little devil's?

Thanks to all of you , I definetly have my wheels spining now!
