I have a computer that I am working on and I am getting a fast clicking
sound threw the speakers at times without any consistency as to when it
happens or trying to repeat it by doing the same thing twice. It is a procomp
bst1m-e motherboard with a celeron 700 processor with 128 meg ram the only
thing added was a Motorola modem running win 98 2nd. I used the motherboard
cd to load the drivers and everything else seams to work. I loaded the audio
drivers from the SIS630 menu. any help would be great. Thanks Keith

Some programs add a clicking sound for certain mouse movements. Go to Sounds in Control panel and see if you see any enabled, particularly Norton Anti-virus.

Another thing to try would be double clicking the speaker in the system tray and muting the various inputs. This would tell you if it's comming as a wave which would indicate it could be software caused.

I had a friend with a similar problem, after messing with it quite abit we found out it was a sometimes "sticky" k/b key causing it...

I have seen that problem before. With a Soundblaster Live! Xgamer. It would make a clicking noise for no reason and we couldnt figure out why. It wasnt the drivers, or speakers because we replaced them. It might just be a faulty card. What kind of card is it BTW....

When this happens I am using the mouse most of the time and when the sound starts the only way to get it to stop is to reboot. I can turn teh sound up and down and the volume works but I can't get rid of it without rebooting???? It happens using the a drive closing programs and other things trip it off but if I try to repeat the sound by doing the same thing it does not do it??

Sounds like a IRQ problem. I had this sound as well recently when installing components into a new machine. It cleared up when I reassigned IRQ's properly. Does it sound like a ripping noise?

Cheers!

E-mail from Keith:
Hello it sounds like a rapid pulse tone, I think best describes it. I don't
get any IRQ conflicts when I check but I think it has something to do with
one myself. How can I narrow it down any idea's?

thanks Keith

I figured that my problems were solved as I hadn't upgraded my SB Live! yet. I was just building this computer at the time and was proceeding along slowly with the hardware and software installation. I had the packaged software installed when I experienced the ripping noise when I moved the mouse. I didn't worry about it as I was now going to install the upgrade. It worked as the noise was no more.

Sound blaster upgrades like to uninstall the previously detected version before it installs itself. This might help you clear out some conflict of devices that may be occuring. Here's the start page for identifying your SB Live! card and locating your upgrade.

Cheers!

I have the same problem, but it really only does it sometimes on my Creative Labs SB Live! card.

Check for upgrades for your MoBo. See if there is an upgrade for the MoBo that contains the onboard Audio drivers or a separate upgrade just for the Audio drivers on the Mobo's Manufactures site. Check for upgrades on BIOs and all your installed hardware while your at it! Why not!

Cheers!

I have tried the drivers from the motherboard company site and that was not a fix?
