NDC 03-18-2001, 08:52 AM Yeah, I've seen that happen on smome cases with Win9x and NT4. You can fix that problem by changing the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ Explorer\Max Cached Icons Change the value for Max Cached Icons to 8192. [This message has been edited by NDC (edited 03-18-2001).] Beemer 03-18-2001, 09:09 AM That's huge! Why not just blow away the ShellIconCache from C:\Windows folder to fix the problem. Reboot and the ShellIconCache file is recreated and icons are fixed. or before you do this, follow the reg path that NDC gave: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ Explorer and on the right you will, or will not see the Max Cached Icons string. Add the string Max Cached Icons if needed. Modify its value to 2000. This limited amount is under controvercy but it is better than the default of 500 made by Win98. Cheers! Dave_H 03-18-2001, 09:49 AM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the favorite icons were kept in the TIF. If you clear your temp files your going to loose them no matter what size your icon cache is. Dave Edit- I think if you want to keep them, you have to move them into a permanent folder, then re-associate the shortcuts to them by rightclicking and selecting propertites, then "change icon". NDC 03-18-2001, 05:46 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the favorite icons were kept in the TIF Well, most sites don't have a custom icon. Windows will use the defaut url.dll file for the icons in favorites. Beemer 03-18-2001, 11:28 PM tips.beemerworld.com and most of beemerworld.com does use custom icons if you create a shortcut to your desktop or add to your favorites. Don't loose them! Cheers!
