OPERATING SYSTEM?????

Extract a new copy of Netdi.dll off your installation CD and overwrite into C:\windows\system if you have Win9X. Then remove all modems from device manager. Reboot, & run the Control Panel/ Add new hardware. Post back if no joy.

no luck. file checker showed no issues. deleted modem, reinstalled, all ok. error message: "cannot load the installer netdi.dll for the net hardware being installed--contact your hardware vendor". All I am trying to do is set up my internet connection. my computer is not on a network. never had a problem with same equip except new mobo. usr 56k pnp external.

Just a thought...delete any references to the modem in device manager again (also check for any "unnamed" or "unlisted" communication devices in the list--especially if they have question marks or exclamation marks by them), and check your bios settings and be sure that "PNP OS" is set to yes. A USR modem should have no trouble being detected correctly.
