i see people posting different mames of pIII saying some are better at overclocking than others. how can i tell which i have if i have thrown away the box and the case the oven it is manufacured in. is there a program that will tell me which i have?
for all of the wise crackers it is a pIII 450 o/ced right now to 558 but i need to go higher.

Try Sandra, it's a system diagnostic program, I remember I used it to identify a P2-233, it will probably work with a P3-450 as well. They have some info about it somewhere on Sysopt, I'm sorry I'm at a loss for the link however, just look around under software.

i dont know if there is a software program for this, but....

ive heard people talk about there being 2 different speeds of L2 chache on the chip, and you can find out which speed you have by cracking open the p3 case and looking at the numbers on the cache chips...

You can download the CPUID utility from Intel for your PIII.

http://developer.intel.com/support/processors/procid/

After running the utility, go here http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec.htm#p3 you can compare the CPUID to the SSpecs (Boxed Test Specification) to see what your CPU sspec is.
