Here's the deal... I have two HDD's. Master HD has Win95 osr2 and I want to put Win3.1 on the Slave HD. Slave already has Win95, and DOS 7, but I don't need it there. Do I simply reformat Slave, and then install Win3.1 to it? Is it better to leave the DOS 7 on it? Just don't want to harm the Master HD in any way! <IMG SRC="http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/net7/coolbrows.gif" border=0>
Any help greatly appreciated!

I've got to wonder, why Windows 3.1?!
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL IMPORTANT DATA BACKED UP!!
If your BIOS supports booting from drive D:, then the easiest method would be to format the slave, then boot from a DOS 6.2 floppy and install DOS to drive D:.
If Windows presence on C: presents a problem you could power down, then carefully remove the 40 pin ribbon cable from drive C:.
Now boot from the floppy and install to C:.
After completing the install, power down and reconnect the ribbon. Then on power up enter the BIOS (Usually the deleat key) and set your boot drive to which ever O.S. you care to use.
Be aware that even when booting from D:, the O.S. will think that D: is C: (the boot partition will be displayed as C http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.
Good Luck!

Get a boot manager from www.xosl.org (http://www.xosl.org)
Install it.
Change the boot to your second HD, format, install DOS, install Win3.1, done.

Maxval...Need Win 3.1 as I am going for my A+ certification. Thanks for your reply.

Comtech...Thanks for the link! Can I load Dos 6.2 from the Win 3.1 floppies, or do I need to get separate floppies to load from?
Basically, where do I get Dos 6.2 (besides from Win 3.1)? TIA

dos 6.2 is on 3 floppy's, they could be emailed to you easy enough, With cdrom drives and win95,98 startup disks we never install dos except to install 3.1.
You must start your comp. with dos disk 1 in the floppy, put disk 2 and 3 in when prompted, you then have the primitive dos to work with, at command prompt put in win 3.1 disk #1 and type enter, then do the same w/Disk2,3 etc. providing your hdrive and all is configured properly this install of 3.1 and dos will be a cinch. If you need the dos e-mail me at
kmbalo@netfeed.com
We'll see a way to get 6.2 to you!

KMBALO...Thanks! email is on the way.

caddmannq...Thanks for the info. Would mscdex.exe from dos7.0 work as I have that on the Master HD, or do I need to down load it from the net?

Appreciate all the great answers!
