What CDR to buy?

This question has been asked a 100 times probably but I did a search and didn't come up with anything.

I am going to buy a CDR drive as soon as my tax refund gets here and I would like to know what you guys think about the Mitsumi eide 4x8 and the Panasonic eide 4x8?

I would like to get the HP 8100 but that is a little out of my price range. I plan on using it for storage and backup mostly. I'm leaning towards the Mitsumi because it has a 2meg buffer. Thanks in advance to all replys!

Take a look at Buycomp.Com ...There prices are pretty good..I checked some other online companies and their still cheaper as far as verbatim and other cdrs!

Have you checked out the user reviews section? SysOpt users have reviewed tons of CD burners from their own experiences:

I personally use the Panasonic 7502 (SCSI version of the IDE 4x8 you mentioned), and I love it. I highly recommend SCSI if possible.. you can actually do some things with your PC while you spend 20 minutes burning a CD.

Thanks for the link Joel. I never even thought too look at the user reviews. I would like to go scsi but I don't have any slots left for a scsi card. I'll just have to do something else while I'm burning.

I got a JVC 2x2x24 CDRW from Costco under $200. Who can complain at that price?

I have the Mitsumi and it works well, it is quick and has never given me any errors except those I made myself. However, the NTI CD maker software that comes with it leaves much to be desired. It is not what you might call a "full-featured" program. Whatever you end up buying, get at least a 4x write and a 2MB buffer and make sure you get the Adaptec software with it.

Thanks for the advice CMonster. Well my BH6 I think died on me so if I have to buy a new mother board I might have to wait awhile before I can buy the CDrecorder. But when I do buy one I will keep that in mind!

When you recover from buying a new mainboard- Get the mitsumi 4x8.Use the latest adaptec software.I've had one several weeks now,with no problems.Burned a backup copy of my WIN98 at 4x in 17 minutes. No coasters yet,after burning 30+ cd's.

my friend has a hi val and a my other friend has a trax data and they both run good with the newest adaptec software its more the software than the burner the other software doesnt allow some things like copying some games and backing up say windows but the adaptec lets u do it all

TEAC or something.... why
6x writer plus extra 36x cdrom... Communicating throuh to SCSI cable, no crashes in multitasking, stability etc.
2 devices working on SCSI, so you have
