Hi all,

I am currently trying to add a new IDE HDD to my system ... physically
everything is OK and the drive is detected by my BIOS and Windows, however
it is not given a drive letter !!?? so I cannot access it !!??

I am also trying to add a SCSI drive (something I have never done before!)
the card and SCSI BIOS come up but no devices are detected !!?? This is an
area of hardware I have never played with ... any suggestions??

Thanks in advance,
Dale

Did you partitioned the new drive? That's where the letter assignment is done.

or even just format the new HDD

With the SCSI card and drive I should only need the data cable (card to drive) and a power cable for the drive, yes???

Does anyone know a good site to look up about SCSI cause I have never had much to do with it and wouldn't mind finding out more !!

Thanks
Dale

Before you can fdisk/format it, the scsi card must recognise that there is a drive attached. You may have a termination problem on your scsi bus. If the drive is the only device on the scsi chain, it should be terminated (usually a jumper). The scsi card must also be terminated. Most modern scsi cards are self terminating. Older ones have resister packs as terminators. Check your manual.

The card should be on the default scsi ID of 7, and the drive needs to be set to a different ID.
