I'm putting together a computer (building it)
I got all the parts put together but when i hit the power it double beeps real quick then beeps 8 times...then pauses then beeps 2x then pasuses then beeps once.
What does this mean?
The computer's mother is a Giga-byte GA-7ZX VIA KT-133 chipset. The hard drive is a 40GB 7200 RPM Maxtor and the CD is some cheap thing.
Think all of the cables are hooked up right?
**** I'm lost! and no gigabyte doesn't have any support numbers. Does the computer beep or is it the hard drive...I don't know.
Anyone get anything similar ever?
What's going on

check to see what bios you have (AMI, Phoenix, etc.) and go here:
http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

It will tell you what's going on. All of the beep codes you list sound like BIOS beeps, and its likely you have more than one problem. Does the system start up or just sit there?

open up the computer and look around on the motherboard. There should be a decent size ic that has a sticker on it that would say, for example, AMIBIOS and a version #. While you are in there, spend a few minutes checking all connectors for good seating (especially RAM), and that all "pin 1" hdd and floppy cables are properly inserted. Pin one on the cables should have a red tracer. On most motherboards the pin 1 position is marked, but may be hard to see. Generally on the drives themselves, pin 1 is closest to the power connector. lol
