Please help.

I just bought a new 256mb PC133 Kingston DIMM. I currently have:
Abit BM6 MB with TZ BIOS version (newest)
Celeron 466
1 128 mb PC100 DIMM
2 32 mb PC66 (I think) DIMMs

I took all the RAM out and installed first in this order: new 256mb in slot #1, 128mb in slot #2, 32mb in slot #3. Machine will not boot...monitor does not turn on.
Removed all RAM except the new 256mb DIMM, powers on and runs fine, but only 128 mb are detected (by BIOS post and Windows system info).
If I install the 128mb RAM in slot #1, and the 256mb in slot #2, the system will only find 128mb RAM.

Basically with the 256mb DIMM installed along with the other RAM, I can either have the system find 128 mb of RAM, or the machine not boot. If I remove the 256 and install all the old RAM I get the correct 192 mb.

Can anyone help? I have tried all I can think of...

TIA!

Mixing ram is not the best idea as you can see. Any idea if the new stick is ecc or non-ecc? You might try to exchange the 256/133 for 256/100. Its only going to run as fast as your bus will support anyway. Not to mention when you mix ram the faster ram will defualt to the slower speed.

I've heard it said that with some mobos that you have to put the slowest ram in the lowest numbered slot(0)and work up from there.

I thought of both of those options, but I still don't understand why when I ONLY have the new 256mb PC133 stick in there only half is detected (BIOS post and Windows system info show 128mb present).

Well just got off the line with Kingston tech support...apparently the Abit BM6 MB does not support registered memory...so looks like I need to take this stick back and get another...

Your new ram is likely some of that new high density cheap stuff made for Athlons, won't work in boards that run PC66 ram.
