Are ata66 cables supposed to have holes in them? The hole is near the connector and breaks the continuity of of one of the wires. What is the purpose of this if it is supposed to be there?

But it looks like it's OK to have the SINGLE little hole but DONT HAVE MORE http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif LOL Mntsnow BEOR999 12-17-1999, 03:19 AM The hole is normal, it's a CABLE SELECT CABLE If the jumper is on the cable select pins, on the HDD, the system uses the cable select feature to determine whether the device will function as a master or slave, rather than using a jumper or switch on the device. This is IDE’s way of providing Plug and Play functionality. In order for this to work, a cable select cable must be used. A cable select cable is an IDE cable that has line 28 open (cut) between the two device connectors. In addition, jumpering a device as master or slave overrides the cable select cable. This means that you could use a cable select cable without actually using cable select to determine master or slave. This may, however, cause problems and is not recommended. If you use the cable select jumper to set a device’s setting, you must have a cable select cable. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif bdog 12-17-1999, 07:15 AM thanks everyone for your input.
