I just got two mails from a friend, one was normal, the other was empty, with an attachment, FIETICEIRA_NUA.JPG.PIF.
I was too hasty, didnt notice the .pif and ran it, it tried to register a startup entry (startup monitior warned me, I said no).
I am worried what may happen on reboot or with mails.
I have looked at the contents with notepad, and posted the text to http://www.hollies.org/whatsthis.txt , if anyone has sufficient knowledge to help.

Please have a look !!!

Looks like you might have been hit.
http://www.computeruser.com/news/00/10/27/news10.html

I'm sorry but I didnt have time to read the whole article.

"Besides ingeniously hidden PIF viruses, they can carry other types of malware. We recommend users not to run these files especially if they are received from untrustworthy source," he said.

Kaspersky's Web site is at http://www.kasperskylabs.com .

Sorry Graham,

I should have checked to see if the article linked you to a software site (most do). I personally would recommend Norton, AVP, Moosoft's "the cleaner" as I usually run those and have had great "luck" with not having viral problems http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hope all works out for you http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

System all back running, guess I'll just have to hope all de-infected. AV software found ~90 files infected !! plus a whole bunch of others where the timestamp was wrong, e.g.

06:27:60, cant have that can you ??

Just hope I havn't infected anyone else.

Thanks for the help/support
