You can never be too carefull when it comes to nut cases that think that the end of the world is on new year...

I think I'll put an electric fence and buy some bulldogs...

Maybe instead of doing that I should be downloading more y2k patches http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Hmmm... I live in MN in a rural community, and I'd have to say that the Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55 has proven itself to me. That, a few 12's, and a class III are all I need. (I'm just joking-about the class three. Wish I had one!

Stocking up on ammo? Withdrawing thousands from the bank? Just out of curiosity:

Did your parents build a nuclear bomb shelter in your backyard when you were a kid?

Are you hiding out with some militia group in the mountains in Montana?

Is your last name Kazinski?

Just kidding ya guys, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping everything doesn't go all ape #$%& http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

If it crashes I'll fix it, don't need money in cash as long as I have food and water, mid summer here so don't have to worry about heating ,as for cooking well theres always the barbe, and we have enough OZ Possums around to feed us for a life time, and sea down the back to supply fresh seafood. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Also had a flock of wild ducks set up home on section last few weeks, Duck A la Orenge any one.

Personally think a lot of this Y2K stuff is just a ploy to sell Joe Blogs more unness stuff. Check out MS and the way they are handling it on the OEM site if you have access.

Do you really believe this bug will actually amount to anything more than a minor inconviencence? In my opinion the bulk of it is just hype, created by our system of mass media and by societies ingnorance of computers, their applications in our lives.

However, the problem beyond the Y2k bug itself that I notice is that we as a society are becoming dependent on our sacred computers. We cannot function well without them, this is a very dangerous thing.

Well I've stocked up on:
a couple of bottles of Mumm vintage champagne
some Twiglets
some Jameson Irish Whiskey
Planters' cashewnuts
Turkish Delight
Graham's 1971 vintage port
5 cases of Stella Artois

If everything goes to hell, I'm just going next door to steal their stuff. Being British, it'll result in nothing more than p*ssed off neighbours (who will die because they are WEAK! And they don't know Kung Fu http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif) and a police caution - and I'm sure they'll have far more serious things to worry about.

Hey What can really happen if its that serius as the media wants us to think. Everyone is talking about the seriusness with the airplanes and elevators and electricity. What happened to the really serius thingies as nuclear powerplants loosing its cooling (bzzzt). All nuclear missileas accidentaly fire because the guidense puters think alls f***d (Kaboom). And the final thingie is that noone will know because all coms are out.

Dont mean to upset anyone with this just want to say my point think the conserns are laid at the wrong things. And well i dont think this is that big a problem anyway its just hysteria.

Well at least I know that... besides it's another year, the only difference is that now it would be 2000 instead of 1999... big deal, but there are a bunch of people who have in their minds:

1. "Oh no! The world will end on the year 2000!"

2. "If you multiply the number 666 by 3 then divide it by 4 and add 10 bla bla bla you get 2000! We are doom"

3. "Computers will no longer work! Banks will stop suppling us with money! We are not going to get anymore food from the supermarket!"

I'm just saying to be carefull with those people, since they are the ones who would make all go to he** not the change of year!

U-96 you forgot to mention if the neighbour defends himself under UK and he brakes your arm in the process you can take him to court for GBH, I remember something like that happening before I left the UK. mind you as pointed out that will really depend on there being no auto fire on the Nukes and melt downs on all the Nuke power plants http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I couldn't tell you exaclty what will happen on the 1st, I'm not that smart. I'm sure there will be a few problems, but one thing you should keep in mind. Those who are in a position to make the changes to keep the system humming, are without a doubt beniffiting from the system. And therfore it would be in every such persons best interest to do all they can to keep the system from collapsing. If you make your money by selling food in the grocery stores you own, and you have a problem getting the food there, your not making any money. And right there, is someone with the recources and the reason to make sure there will be food on the shelves. There are people just like that in every aspect of modern life threatened by Y2K who will devote all of their energies and all of their recources to making sure life goes on. Greed is an extremely powerful force in the human equation, and believe me, it will be working toward your advantage this new year. So sit back, relax, watch the fireworks, then watch the fireworks, and just remember, those that are in a position to take care of it, will.

I don't think the Y2K problem is really going to be a big threat. I am more concerned as to what might happen if Russia decided it wants to be heavy handed and keeps on bombing innocent people in Grozny.
I think the end of the world is more likely to come from the hands of some nutter rather than a computer bug!!

If I didn't know better I would say Orson Wells was behind it all. Admittedly a very real problem seems to exists because of the earlier computer design. I feel, due to the greed of man that most of the problem is all hypothectical, a big marketing scheme, to say the least. All the big corporations and governments would lose too much MONEY, if this really was to come to pass as predicted.
This may be a stitch in time , but that's all. As far as being prepared... like was brought up earlier, I'm more concerned with the likelyhood of panic and some loose nut running around the neighborhood. Canned food and water, shovel and toilet paper, the basics.I load my own ammo, that's no problem. I can deal with em up close or at a distance. Got enough wood to last til spring and plenty of matches. But I'm not in the least concerned cause nothing drastic is going to happen. We survived the Cold War, this is quite simliar in alot of ways. I feel that there is more control of these siuations than are being given credit for. But only time will tell. If were not out partying,I plan to have Sysopt'son my computer, Dick Clark on the TV, a drink in my hand and the old lady on my lap. If anything should happen ,I'm going out with a with a smile on my face. Anyone got a better plan???????

The way I look at it is this: All I need is my trusty HK USP .45, and plenty of ammo. If everyone panics and decides to tear down my door for some reason, I've got protection. On the other hand, if something un-expected happens, like the loss of power, banks shutting down, etc. etc... If I NEED anything, me and my trusty side kick can "Convince" people to give it to me...for free...

P.S.>>Mntsnow, that 7.62 that you have wouldn't just happen to be 7.62x39 would it???? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Wut else would he be talking about? Unless a .308, but nobody refers to that by its nato designation. Just like noone referrs to the .223 as 5.56x45!(thats wut the m16 uses, deadly before they removes low barrel turn rates...)
Yeah, for all of those who are too stupid to realize that people are the problem and not guns.... MOUNTAIN SNOW HAS A GUN THAT SHOOTS THE SAME ROUND AS THE AK-47!!! Oh no, its the end of the world!
Mntsnow, I want you to know that I stinking wish you had an ak-47 (do you have a class III?)!

Hey, if you're scared of guns people, I just wanna let you know... "You fear what you do not know."

Mntsnow
12-14-1999, 10:41 PM
Yes it is 7.62x39 (AK-47 (paratrooper) and also a SKS (pre-ban)) as for the 223 (yes 5.56mm http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif) goes in a Mini14, AR-15 (H-bar) and a XP-100 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Apostle,
My brother and I gathered alot of our gun collections because of having a FFL (Federal Firearms License) Which we have now discontinued to have due to the increased costs associated with having a firearms license http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif So that should kinda answer your other question http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif We first got our FFL to kinda go along with our family Hunting business (http://www.aros.net/~mntsnow/hunting.html) and our Mountain grounds (http://www.aros.net/~mntsnow/mountain.html)

Needless to say I enjoy Utah's liberal gun laws with their "right to open carry" or with a training and certification class "concealed carry"

Ok if you (WW) worried about not to be able communicate with Sysopt after 2yk I am already in trouble. Last two hours I had tens attempts to connect my self on this site and it is only 15 days before 2yk. So, should I say now good by or see you sometimes in future.

Mntsnow, the thing is, if you look at the federal regulations, they design it so it is relatively easy to get a ffl, but hard to renew. A very large number of people get em, then drop em.
I wish you still had yours... maybe we at sysopt could come and live at the limb jonathinian in sysco with you! Hahaha, don't take this paragraph seriously! Please, if anyone takes this seriously, we will all laugh at you!

The thing with us and weapons is that we are loosing more of our rights evry day!So arm yourself while you can.Our country is going to sh*t and fast.Still a great place to live but in the next ten to thirty years we are going to go through some serious changes.YEa Russia fell but who do you think is going to take their place! We are next if it is up to goverment.
I mean comeon I have to take a drug test for jobs all the time. Is that not a violation of my cival rights! Well guess what the people in Geogia tried to have their politions take drug test and the Suprem court of the USA found that it was a violation of their privacy or something!!!!
Why is it not mine? I agree with the tests when someone is hurt but they still have to pay the med cost. Thats not the point though.

Oh,we will be ready to fight if and when the time comes. ANd allot of use are as well armed and trained as the military!

i'm sorry you had to take a drug test, if i had to take a drug test i would buy a big gun and shoot everyone...Ohhhhh Wait!!! I'M NOT AMERICAN! at least not the stereotypical american. If i were an employer I wouldn't want to hire a drug abusers. It may be your civil rights, but unless you haven't broken any drug laws, you shouldn't have anything to hide. Any employer has the right to know if you're bondable, which means they pretty much know your criminal record. They should have the right to know who they hire. Would you want to hire some junkie!? And just because people have to take drug test, i don't see how that's going to lead to the downfall of the US. You guys have big bombs remember?!

jad1097
12-16-1999, 05:35 PM
That was not my point about the test. I do not do drugs. Besides the #1 abused drug is legal in this country! ANd they do not need to know my crimanal past! What I did 11 years ago does not reflect what I am like now. My point about the test is what is good for the goose is not good for the gander! If I were a polition I could bounce 100+ checks and never go to jail or have to pay my debt! This is fact! Our goverment can not even pay their own bills! Our people live on credit cards! People who make $100,000 + a year live week to week! I make a little more than half that and have more money in the bank that them. Acording to consumer reports 70% of americans live paycheck to paycheck. The only reason unemploynt is so low is because there is a fastfood joint on every other corner!
I keep 3 to six months pay in the bank. I do not have any credit cards and there is areason for this. I can balance my budget. Our countrys debt is trillions of dollars. And all we have to do is buy back the fedral reserve for one billion! Kennedy was doing just that one week before he was shot! Is anyone aware that when our debt = the amount of all the property in this country. The fedral reserve can take ownership! Go to a college library it is there in black and white! Scary huh. And I am not joking! Just some resarch that I have done in the past.
Anyway what is worse the person who tokes on a joint now and then or the person who gets drunk and kills inocent people!I myself who once owned a company would rather hire the junkie as you say. NOT THE DRUNK! Besides cockain only stays in your urine for 72 hours while weed stays there a month or so depending on your fat content. It stores in fat cells or something like that anyway.
Would you rather have they person who smoked a joint friday night or the person who came into work monday morning after drinking all weekend hungover?????
