Just a simple question....which is better. My bother is bent on getting a n64 cuz all his little friends have it. But what I've been told is that playstation is better. Dreamcast is not an option. I know this isn't directly related to computers, but I didn't really know where else to go with this. Thanks
My son says definitely the playstation! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Ahem.. excuse me, but the situation has changed a lot in the past year... Playstation games have always had crappy grpahics in comparison with 64, and now 64 has GOOD CONCEPTS for its games. Jet force gemini, for example ROCKS.

personally, i have always like nintendo over everyone else ever since they released the original nes back in 1985. i like the n64 more than the playstation - i think it has better graphics and control, etc.. the only thing that i really hate is that there arent really a whole lot of "good" games for the n64. theres goldeneye, and a couple sports games, but a lot of the games they come out with are just stupid. playstation, i will have to admit, has a broader and better range of games and always has more coming out, where as it seems like nintendo is just kinda sittin on their **** and then throwing out a couple games they pulled out of their butts every now and then. but, even with all that, i would have to stay with n64...

I go for the playstation. Why?
It has an endless list of games and N64 not. Yeah the 64 has better graphics due to its 64-bit SGI chip, but it had been a total waste, since they stayed with the catridges limiting space and higher prices. The playstation has more games than you can ever play in your life and that is what makes it much better. And latetly who had been coming out with new games for the N64? Nintendo, why? Maybe because it is already dying and leaving the scene for its new succesor aka Dolphin and nowbody else want to make games for it.
If you are looking for eyecandy graphics and sound, but a very few selections of games go for the N64. If you want a wide variety of games, but with a bit more oldie graphics go for the playstation.
My vote is for the Playstation too. I've had mine since 1995 and have around 50 games for it, many of which cost me no more than £20.
It may well be dated compared to the N64 and Dreamcast, but no other console is supported as heavily and it may well be within the limits of a child's pocket money to buy games for it.
Get a bundle with a couple of dual-shock controllers and a couple of memory cards and you won't go far wrong.

Daniel says he wants both, as it depends on the game.

I have both systems and the only reason i have the playstatin is because of the RPGs. Nintendo has WAY better graphics and quality games. PSX may have a lot of games but how many of them would you say are great and not peices of **** slapped together. I have to vote for Nintendo.

Wait for Playstation II.
I can't argue with that, emcron - Sony definitely went for quantity over quality on the games front. Nintendo does have a reputation for crafting its games, but that effort results in few releases.
The PS certainly had it's Golden Age between Resident Evil and FFVII - the forthcoming releases look uninspired...
Get a kickass PC instead http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Ha, my pc holds it's own just fine. But the console system would be my bothers christmas present.
Doesn't n64's music suck or something? I must admit I'm in the dark about console systems. I had a sega way back when...and a snes, but I never really got into them.

We got a Dreamcast a couple months ago, and it is incredible! I hear they are getting scarce right now. Soul Caliber has superb graphics. It isn't cheap,though($199). PS2 will be awesome and can play DVD movies as well as older playstation titles, but it's really going to be pricey. Looks like dreamcast "owns" the console market this Xmas. But I'll still take my PC, thank you. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

wait for the dolphin from nintendo... Nintendo has said it will sell for $99!! Games will be about 40-50, as dvd will be cheaper than cartridges. It will have a 400mhz main processor... dang, forgot the other specs, this is off the top of my head. All I know is it will blow away paying 250-500 for a playstation!

Now? For better graphics/faster load-times, N64. For much larger selection of titles, PS.
A few months from now? PSII, hands down!
A few months from then? Nintendo Dolphin will likely rule the roost.
Yes Seti, you are quite right about the N64 music.
Because the N64 is cartidge based, music tends to be a little like MIDI quality because of the storage reqired for *REAL* tunes. Because the PS is CD based (and I'm guessing PS2 games will all be on DVD) real audio tracks are the norm.
Early games like Wipeout sold well because the music (Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, etc) was so phenonemal. It was a pretty regular thing in 1995/1996 to find all the hippest nightclubs providing Playstations!

Get a Playstation. Everything that you buy for it now will work with the PSX2. I like the games on the PSX its what I have. I have over 150 games on it and most of them are GREAT!
