Everyone seems to experience shut down problems with Win 98. Although I haven't; I *have* experienced my Win2K system turning on in the middle of night after I've shut down.

Odd? Is it the Sparkle power supply?
Other specs:
Asus K7V motherboard, Athlon 750
256 SDRAM, pc133
7200 Eide HD, 30 gig (IBM)
Elsa Erazor X2, AGP
OS is Windows 2000 Pro although this happened with Win ME too.

Any idears?

well I'll jump in with the same problem - mine restarts regularly as well(maybe every 30 mins or so, turns on the monitor, and then procedes to standby again (winme)not much in common with you (pcchips 805 mb - ati rage fury agp 32 duron 650 256meg mem pc133 running pc100

I did get some messages about my logictech ifeel usb mouse related to not allowing standby but these went away after I changed the acpi standby state

so I'll follow the solution to your problem

Have you checked in the bios, for automatic turn on at a certain time? or wake up on lan or modem activity, keyboard power up?

Also check for a BIOS setting like reboot after power fail or resume on power good.
And you could have a bad switch, use the reset switch in place of the power switch to test (leave power switch off).

Yes, I have had similar problems with the computer turning itself on in the middle of the night.

Check the following in the BIOS:

Power On after power fail
Wake on LAN (aka WOL)
Wake on Ring
Check for wake on any power mgmnt event
Timed turn on

These are the most common culprits for your problems.

Let us know if you still have problems after checking these.
