I have done some basic work like install new HD and networking my wife's PC to mine but I hunger for more knowledge.
Is there a place I can go to read about hardware and what it does liek the differnet types of M/Bs and stuff like that or better yet i read once that you could sign up for a PC "school" and they would do like extended learning and after bout 3 or 4 months they start sending you PC hardware to build a PC anyone know anythign bout that???

There's a great ~$50 book called "Upgrading and Repairing PCs". It's currently version 11 (I think). It has in-depth info on _EVERYTHING_ you could ever want to know (It's over 1000 pages).

Hello FitzDaddy,
Actually SysOpt is a pretty good place to start your quest for computer knowledge. You can read through the SysOpt Guides (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/guides.html) and the Sysopt Hardware Reviews (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/reviews.html) , as well as those over at Tom's Hardware (http://www.tomshardware.com/) .
I got my start by reading computer magazines like PCWorld (http://pcworld.com) and PC Magazine (http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/) , then came to rely heavily on the information right here at SysOpt.
I'm sure some others will post other links to sites with the kind of information you're craving. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Good luck, if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask, that's what this board is here for. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

One thing I've learn't from my time on the internet.........don't pay good money for what is essentially advice. If you want hardware reviews check out this very site. As for building your own PC simply do a search for 'PC building'on google or another search engine and you will be reading for weeks. I can gaurantee you this, anything you pay for is available in much better quality for free.

PS. As a start check out:
www.pcguide.com (http://www.pcguide.com) www.pcmech.com (http://www.pcmech.com)
Buy an FIC 503+ motheboard with cheap RAM and cheap peripherals! You'll learn everything you'll ever want to know and then some about a computer! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
