Im about to build a system for someone...
Im gunna make em a Celeron unclocked system (300-400 range)
Should i bother putting anything on the Processor at all?
Im more concerned about the noise than the price (customer satisfaction http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)...
I dont know if the stability will be noticably increased if i stick, say a CFM32 on it?
Im really not too keen on extra noise output...so Id like to avoid that if at all possible.
Should I stick maybe a fanless sink on?
Let me know!

It says in the Intel Errata that a heatsink at least is required on all P2 and Celeron processors. Get a heatsink, use some thermal grease, and see if it'll run stably without a fan on the heatsink. If not, then I'm sure the customer will galdly trade a bit of background noise for stability.

I was kinda thinking that
Maybe ill get one of those cheap Socket 7 $5 fan sink's instead of this CFM32 i wa planning to put on it..

As long as it's not going to be overclocked, I think a cheap generic heatsink/fan is just fine, but nothing less. I wouldn't build one without them, and don't forget the grease.
It's always worth the extra couple of $ to insure that you won't be called back for any tech support or problems with the system, in more ways than one.
In all reality, a CPU fan doesn't make too much extra noise.

A small one doesn't but a case fan or a Y.S.Tech 26CFM fan does. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
How bout the 80mm case fan?
say I get a case with 2 80mm fan slots in it
how many fans should I fit inside there...0,1 or 2?
Im looking for best - leastnoise/moststabilty ratio (or something like that)
got my grease supply...thats no prob (cant ever forget the grease... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)

0, as long as the power supply blows out and there is a clear way for air to get across the hardware, meaning - tie up the cables.

thanks for the quick tips

well tried some stuff for you today. first my p2 350 not clocked won't run anymore than a couple of minutes without a fan. my celery 366 not clocked will run a little longer without a fan but not all that stable. but I guess it depends where the powersupply is. in both cases the powersupply is to the side and close to my cpu(some unwanted heat from the PS). hope that helps. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Put a fan on the CPU and one on the front of the case, and make sure the PS fan blows out.If your building this for a friend or whoever, make sure it's done right.....remember,the best advertising is referrals!!!.....DawgTuff.

My q is...
Is the Extra noise a REAL fan makes make it any more stable than if i put a Socket7 Fan on the Celly?
I havent tried that yet!
I think i have one of those 1/2 inch tall sinks soemwhere thast got a fan bolted on it..
Maybe I should just try myself eh?
I dont really got alota grease left and North jersey must be the only place in the world that has Radioshacks who still sell Tandys and dont know what 'thermal grease' is...Gotta stock up on grease but should I pay 5 bucks shipping for 2 bucks of grease?
It really bites
I like the one that came with my alpha..tubes really neato. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Hmm
alright
Back to school for the final grueling week..ugh.

MOST people don't mind a little noise, as long as it doesn't sound like a lawn mower.

I remember going from my usual PII superclocked machine with an alpha and 2 case fans down to my old 486/33
first thing i noticed was WOW it was quiet down there.
Its real noticable when u got these massively powerful 60mm Y.S.Tech'ers http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
