What do I need to open MS Works 2000 documents in Word from Office 97? Or can I?

I'm not sure about Works 2000, but I recently upgrade my mothers computer and decided to convert all her MS Works 4.5 documents to Office 2000 documents.

-Word can not import MS Works .wps documents created by Works 2.0 or newer, but MS Works allows you to save the document as a generic Word for Windows .doc file under the "save as" option.

-Same thing applies to Works .wks spreadsheet files. You have to "save as" an Excel .xls document from the MS Works "save as" dialog box.

-I'm not sure about Works .wdb database files. I do remember several years ago that I used "Save as" to create a .csv file then use the "import" feature in Access to import the .csv file, but all formating was lost.

You can find all this information in the MS Works help files by searching for terms like "exporting" "save as" and "Excel".

Here is a Works 2000 to Word converter. http://works.msn.com/HomePages/Offers_Downloads.asp#Works2000Conv
I never tried it so I'm not sure if it's a one way thing, or if you can reopen them in Works.
Hope that helps.

From the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Works: How to Import and Export Works Spreadsheets to Excel 97 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q163/1/09.ASP)

Apparently, Word97 includes a text converter for Works 3.0 and 4.0, but it's not installed by default. "To install these converters, rerun the setup program, click Add/Remove, and then select the converters you want." (http://support.microsoft.com/support/Word/Convert97/Overview.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=can%20i%20import%20a%20Works%20document&rnk=4&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=WRD97)
