I have just built an Athlon 950 mhz computer on an EP-7KXA+ mainboard. The video card is a Riva's TNT2 Agp card. After putting it all together, it powered up perfectly. I was useing a hard drive that already had Win 98 on it and it detected and installed all the components. It was working fine and I installed a Cannon FB620 scanner when the screen froze. I pressed the reboot button when it appeared that the system was hungup and the screen went black. I can't get it to do anything now. The little red led on the motherboard is on when I apply power. I cpu fan and power supply fan runs, it sounds like it may be counting memory (96 mgs pc100), but the monitor remains black. I am at a loss. Everything appears to be be hooked up correctly. I plugged the monitor into my laptop and it works fine. I changed the video card for another agp card, but still no change. If anyone might be able to help me, I would be ever so greatful. Thank you for any help you can give me.

That was my first thought the video card,
do you have an old video card to put in a pci slot to make sure nothing got damaged on the agp slot?

The best I can think of now is some basic questions:

(1) What happens if you disconnect the scanner?
(2) Does your case have a built-in speaker? (I HAVE encountered one or two that don't!)
(3) The reason for Q#2: Does the PC give the standard short beep on boot up, meaning it passed the POST OK, or does it give one L O N G beep, meaning it can't find a video card?
(4) Try removing everything but the video card; what happens?

I have tried a different AGP video card, but I don't have a PCI video card. I disconnected the scanner first thing. It didn't help. I have disconnected the hard drive and CD drive and removed everything except the video card and floppy drive and it still won't boot. It does have a speaker but I never heard any beeps even when it booted up normally. It had the quietest bootup I have heard. Thanks for all the help. Any other Ideas?

Does that mean it's not even getting through the bios? Could you have a bad chip,,, or poor connection? If you take your ram off the board, and boot, do you still not hear the beeps that come from the cmos? Just a thought,, Hope you find the problem soon.

I tried every possible combination of trouble shooting and nothing worked. I contacted tech support and they authorized a return. I am now waiting for the new mobo. I have one question. I have put the old mobo into the new case I bought for the Athlon and it is working great but I don't have any indicator lights showing on the case. I plugged the switch plugs so that positive goes to what I believe to be pin 1. Any suggestions as to why there are no indicator lights showing? Thank you everyone for your help.

The LED's only light if the polarity is correct. Switch the pins around and see if that corrects the problem.

I will reverse the LED switch and see if that fixes it. Is there any danger of harming the Motherboard by having the switch plugs turned the wrong way? Thanks for the help.
