Hi, I live in a very small apartment, I'm getting a small desk, small being the key word, so I would like to put my computer and printer away from my desk, maybe in another room and just have monitor and keyboard on the desk. Is there a limit on how long I can make my cables?
Tks.

Hi.
Printer is no problem i (have mine on a cord about 10 meters away) dont know about the rest though but dont tink its a problem.
Only thing that can bee an issue is the monitor but dont think so.

Yes there is I just can't remember the distanes off hand. what you have to be careful of if you are close to the limit you may not notice the errors till later. if I find the recom max length I post them if no one else has.

I think youll be fine up to 30 feet at least..a small apartments second room would be less than 30 feet away wouldnt it?
I know for a fact that the monitor cable can be at least 30 feet (I have an 25ft extender for it and it works fine)

Sorry about the vague info, but theres a means of getting signal boosters so that you can extend the length of a monitor cable to 100ft+. I'll try and get some better info...

One thing about the vga cables for your monitor. If you are going to string them from room to room. You need to make sure that the monitor cable is shieled and has a 'noise arrester'. The noise arrester is basically a set of magnets you place on the cable on the two ends of the cord (right next to the monitor and right next to the computer).
You should be able to pick up an extension with these built in. My Gateway monitor came with such a cable. If not, you probably can pick up a set at your local computer store. The main test to see if these magnets are what you want, these should not attract or repel each other, and they should not attract to metal.
These magnets are designed to disrupt crosstalk from other sources and also static hum from the AC in your apartment. If you have any questions about this orynn@yahoo.com
BTW 'noise arrester' is not the correct name, but what it does, if I come across the real name I will edit this post to reflect the real name.
