I'm stumped... I'm thinking its time to get a new mouse. My two choices I've laid out are Intellimouse Explorer (no ball) or a Logitech Cordless Mouse.

Does anyone have any idea on which one I should get?

Any pros/cons?

Thanx.

first of all the idea of buying batteries all the time really sucks.... and switching the mouse on and off would be REALLY annoying....

i am thinking bout getting the Iexploror mouse as well.....not too bad from about 60$-+ http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

jokostel,

I have a logitech cordless mouseman wheel and it turns itself on and off. I have heard that the batteries last up to nine months. I have had my mouse for a month now and the mouseware still shows the battery level as "good". I would definitely recommend this mouse.

Shoot, I've got the Logitech wheel mouse ($29.95 version!) I love it. Had a micro innovations dual wheel mouse. Coolest thing since sliced bread! But, it doesn't seem to be liked by a lot of programs, so I'm back to th elogitech wheel mouse. At least as good control as the intellimouse pro, at what, half (or less) the price.

I've tried the MicroSoft Explorer mouse, I have the MS IntelliPoint Pro, and, just today, started using the Logitech Cordless MouseMan Wheel.

So far, the Logitech is keeping my hand and fingers in comfort. It tracks as well as the MS Pro, however, the universal scrolling (as seen on screen) is not as smooth, but rather a little bit jerky. This isn't as much of a con, as it's well placed fourth thumb button, is a pro. The wheel itself is not as quiet and smooth feeling as the MS Pro. Logitech took a different design route here and made the wheel "stiffer and tighter" and added little notches to the wheel; unlike MS's approach of a smooth "light" turning wheel. The MS approach to is better in both feel and function.

I'm going to have a hard time giving up the IntelliPoint Pro for any mouse. But Logitech has made a good effort in bringing us a nice product that has the convenient fourth thumb button and a comfortable shape that will win many people over. (Of course it being cordless, is a great feature in itself.) The two AAA batteries should last six months between replacement.

-Unlike the MS Explorer mouse, I will give it a try.

Now the MS Explorer is a different story all together. I was expecting something better than the Pro. What I got was a product that immediately cramped my fingers and hand. It's overly sensitive buttons was frustrating
to say the least. It had the best cursor tracking of all three and it looks cool, and with the extra buttons...but that just didn't cut it.

-I returned that one in a flash.

Now granted, these are small issues but mice are small aren't they?

I have owned a Logitech Cordless Wheelmouse for over a year now and really like. And would highly recommend it, but with a couple warnings.

1.) If you use your computer a LOT, like I do (several hours a day) then there's no way you'll be getting nine months from your batteries, or even six months like the box indicates. I'm getting about two months (maybe three tops) from two top of the line alkaline batteries.

But IMO a few dollars every few months is worth it for freedom from that infernal cord. Plus, this mouse uses the batteries more efficiently than any electronic device I've ever seen. It'll work fine right up until the batteries are dead. And when they're dead, I mean they're DEAD, it sucks every ounce of power from those suckers. (Those of you with a Logitech cordless, when your batteries die try putting them in a mini flashlight to see if you even get a flicker of faint light...you'll probably get nothing.)

2.) My second issue with this mouse is if you want to use a program like ps2rate to boost your mouse cursor refresh it'll will only give a slight increase. Seems to be limited by the radio transmission frequency somewhere between 60-70hz. It's not the end of the world, but I was a little disappointed to find my Logitech Wheelmouse with a cord is much smoother than my cordless when on the ps2 port.
