I need a way to play or convert .RoQ files. It's the movie format that Q3A uses. Perhaps there is a Q3A devkit that I'm not aware of.

Thanks.

I don't know for sure, but that file type is probably only able to be played within q3a. I'm a big HL player, and the in game demos are recorded with .dem extensions and I've found nothing that can play them.
One (complicated) possibility would be to find a program that records all on-screen activity as an avi. I know they exist, but I don't know of any offhand.
Outside of that, maybe send an email over to id and see what they say?

E-mail ID? Nah, they won't even release the DevKit until they've made their millions off the game, let alone telling me how to take it apart.

I belive those files aren't actual movies. I think what they do is record the movements and actions, but renders and applys the textures and such in realtime. I think recording it as a movie would take way too many resourses.

As for .avi screen capture, check this out...I havn't actully used the program I just did a quick search on softseek, but It looks like it may be what your looking for.

Actully don't bother with that one....it only captures 4fps.

It's an actual movie format, of that I am sure. What I what to be able to see is not a recorded demo, but the Intro. I unziped the PAK, and the Intro had an extension of .roq. I'm assuming that Carmack didn't write the codec for the video himself, in which case I'd have absolutely NO means of playing it.

Ahh, ha, I guess I was thinking movie=demo. I never even thought about the pre-renderd opening. If you had a tv in/out card and wanted to make it really complicated, you could save to vhs, and then back to your hard drive. You'd need to mix in the sound again with some home-movie editing softwear.

I do have one of those, but thats something that I wanted to avoid if at all possible, as it would certainly murder the video's quality. I guess I'll have to look for a real good screen capture program.
