98 SE restart prolem

Does anyone have problem with restarting theri computer and then the "windows Now shutting down" pops up and just freezes there? That's what happening to me. I have to press reset after that? I noticed that this happens as soon as I install my Sound Blaster Live Xgamer. Please help.

Remove everything from the StartUp group and disable everything, except System Tray, from the Startup tab in MSConfig (Start > Run > MSCONFIG). Then restart, when it locks on "Please Wait...," power down and back on. See if you can shut down. If it works, then one of the items in Startup was causing it, put only a few back that you really need until the problem returns. If this does NOT correct the problem, be certain to get the latest drivers for the sound card from Creative Labs. Also, get the shutdown patch from www.windowsupdate.com. (http://www.windowsupdate.com.) Let us know what happens.
