Hi, I was wondering if there is any form of foam insulation or such i could put on the sides of my case and wherever i dont have fans, my case is waaay too loud, the parents notice that i leave it on cracking RC5 =), for those who wonder, thats a bad thing...

What is too loud? Fans? HD? You might be able to quiet the components instead of covering the machine. BTW, putting foam on the outside may be a bad idea if you have pets. I guess foam tastes better than rawhide or catnip. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Just tell them that turning it on and off damages components and reduces their lifetime. Of course, if your parents are sassy, they'll tell you NEVER to turn it on again http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Of course there is.
Instead of putting it just in specific places, I'd put it ALL over the whole side of the inside of the case. Just make sure you don't cover any vents.

Dash,
You could get some Neoprene padding, like the stuff mousepads and wetsuits are made of.
You could cut pieces to neatly fit the inside side panels etc.
You can attach it using spray on adhesive, like rubber cement. You need to apply it to both the part you are attaching and the part that it is being attached to. You would want to remove components from your case before doing any spraying near the case.
I'm sure that would quiet it down a bit, but the single loudest thing in my case is 40mm fans that are sleeve type (they should be bearing type). A single larger fan is much quieter than a couple of smaller fans. Fans are not real expensive and it's well worth replacing them if they are questionable.

Good luck and keep it cool and quiet,

Forget the foam! Heat kills systems.

I highly recommend that you identify the offending components and look at upgrading them. Here are a few pointers.

Load hard drives typically are about to fail anyway.

Load CD-ROMS are typically caused by CD's which aren't balanced. These can end up destroying the drive - see if the game will allow you to install it to a hard drive to play it, some do.

Load fans mean cheap fans. Spend between $14 and $28 and get a new fan or two with bearings. Systems almost always appreciate new fans.

If the fan is within your power supply, might be time for a new power supply.

Last thing that comes to mind - disconnect the internal speaker and turn off your external speakers when you absolutely don't need them. You can also dis-associate sound files with system functions as well - mine's real quiet. Only screams during games, unlike my daughter http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

But the foam thing is a real bad idea.

Another thing you could do is buy extension cables, put a few holes in the wall, and sit the CPU in the other room, but that's a bit drastic not to mention a pain when changing floppies or CD's.

When he says foam "insulation" he is not reffering to keeping heat in. MANY people use foam insulation if they have heavy cooling, because of the noise... Foam majorly reduces noise.

If added, to the interior of the case, not covering any vents, it shouldn't interfere with cooling anyway.

look through the articles on modifying cases over at www.2cooltek.com, (http://www.2cooltek.com,) he found some thin stuff that kills the noise.
