hey,

anything new to this?? I think they will do it from the 01.01.2000 on... so if you will get a OEM-License never change your Mobo or HD!!! No good news for "selfbuilder" !

I don't think there's anyway MS would do that. Illegal copying of Windoze was the best thing that ever happened to MS. Even Bill Gates will admit that.

.I thought a dongle was like a passthru of the parallel port (a la diamond Rio)

Back in the old days 8 bit computers would have a dongle that often pluged into a second Joystick port, the program would address the dongle for a code, before enabling the program for use,
Mostly a pain in the A** if you wanted to use a program you could guarantee you could never find where you put it the last time you finished useing it, so most either wrote a software patch that bye past it or hacked the dongle and made 6 or 7 clones so they could always find one.
all it really did was tie up another port, and they are in short supply on IBM compats. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif talk about going retro grade.

a dongle was common with the Commadore comps
you got one with each program you bought.

I have never heard the term "tongle" before. We just called them keys.
