I was troubleshooting a newer box the other day and tried to run "System File Checker" from the Start/Run line. Got a "could not find etc." error message. Did SFC only come with Windows98? Is there another way to check system files in the Millennium edition?
Thanks, Z

Hi Zybercom
ME uses SFP - System File Protection.

Socalgal,
Thanks for the reply! I read the Microsoft article, but I'm still unclear as to whether this "SFP" can be used as a diagnostic tool like SFC was in 98. I know there is a utility that does a system restore in ME, but that seems a little drastic if all that's needed is the ability to hunt down and replace a single system file.
Comments?

You're welcome http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
You mean as from the Run box? I don't think so, at least entering 'sfp' or 'sfp.exe' or 'scu' or 'scu.exe' doesn't work. Could be another way that I don't know about to access from the Run box.
From the Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools/SystemInformation it brings up the Help window (ugh) and under Tools you can bring up the System Configuration Utility.
Anyway, to extract a file, go into the General tab in SysConfig Utility and there's an Extract File button, or look here:
