It seems that my Aureal sound card and my just bought Geforce MX graphics card cannot co-exist together. This is what has happened.

If I were to boot up the computer with both sound and graphics drivers installed, after the windows98 screen, upon loading the background jobs and the main working screen, the computer will always hang/freeze without fail.

I have already tried :
1. Disable the sound upon booting from the device manager - no problem
2. Boot the system with only sound with the standard VGA display - no problem
3. Install Hercules MX driver, detonator 6.47 - all will not work with the sound

The one and only way that I can enable both to coexist is to change the Graphics hardware acceleration to "Basic". But I hope I will not need to live with this.

Previously I had a Matrox card and there were no problems at all.

My Computer configuration :
Intel Celeron 300A
Asus P3V4X
Aureal PCI A3D sound card (Aureal Vortex AU8820 driver)
Hercules Geforce2 MX
3Com NIC card
DirectX 8.0 (tried directX 7.0a before)
Via 4 in 1 driver 4.27
Windows 98 4.10.1998 (Service Pack 1)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
