Okay, I bought me a nice shiny Pioneer DVD-ROM. I finally got Win98SE to work out that it was there (it also lost my regular CD drive)
I'm using Intervideo's WinDVD. I'm getting sound but no video... the WinDVD splash screen stays on top, with the video seemingly layered underneath. Any ideas?

The components I have (that are relevant):
128MB RAM (yes I finally bought some more!)
Voodoo3 3000
SB Live! Player 1024
Celeron 400

DVD is SLAVE to CDROM MASTER on IDE2

I've read a lot about bus mastering and UDMA enabling on similar posts, but I cant install the Abit BX6-2 Win95 bus mastering stuff from my mobo CD under 98 for some reason, and there is nothing on their website.
DMA is persistant on the DVDROM properties, so it's not that issue.
Pioneer's website is next to useless.

First put the DVD as master, it is the recommended setup for it. Then check that your video card support OverlayMode.

Also for the sound make sure th DVD drive is connected to your sound card. Otherwise no sound will come out of it.

Thanks Pantion!
I didn't get a chance to try your solution... a couple of reboots and changing the BIOS integrated peripheral settings from Auto to Disabled for non-UDMA devices seemed to fix it. I also reinstalled the old Voodoo 3 drivers, so that could have been a contributing factor.
Go figure!

Thanks anyway, maybe someone else will benefit from our combined wisdom http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Haven't seen the Matrix... yet. I think I'll go and get the DVD. Good thing in the Flea Market you can exchange your DVDs for around 4 bucks. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Hi,
I'd recomment you try out Cinemaster 99 too. Then get DVD Genie and make sure that the hardware optimisation for your card is being used.

I used to use PowerDVD, but then bought Cinemaster 99, and now I get 1MKey/sec in RC5 while watching DVDs - with Power DVD I'd be lucky if one block completed during a whole movie.

With DVD Genie you can enable advanced sound effects and make sure that hardware optimisation is actually in operation.

I think I got DVD Genie from www.dvdutils.com (http://www.dvdutils.com) .

Thanks for the link bkehoe it has a bunch of apps. for DVD.

Just one question... are all the players software based or they also have the option to use a decoder card? I been using the Encore player included in my kit and it isn't too much of my like.
