Think the tone of those "Visa vs American Express" spots:

"Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 may be a rocking OS but it wont install on Ultra ATA66'

My son had a problem installing the latest version of Caldera OpenLinux - it just wouldn't see the hard disk...then he tried RedHat 5.2 - same deal, Partition Magic created the Root and Swap partitions just fine but the hard disk is not there on Linux install.

The problem, according to Caldera tech support, is that the current Linux kernel doesn't yet support Ultra ATA66 - the stop-gap solution: "Set the drive as ATA33."

Bummer!

Yep http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Hopefully in the next kernel they will build support for the 66! Just think how fast our linux boxes would boot at 66 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

There isn't one drive out on the market yet that experiences any tangible speed increase over ata-33. Since the newest dma drives can't even read off the platters at 33mb's the only speed increase noticed is the transfer of data already in the buffer when requested. Considering the largest normal buffers are 2mb, this doesn't happen enough to really effect boot time or any other aspect of system performance....yet. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
