Just starting to build a new system around an Abit KT-7-A-RAID board and am confused how to cable up a 30.1Gb IBM UDMA100 HDD, a HP 9100 CDRW, a 24x CDROM and an LS120 drive.

I want to use the CDRW as my main device for CD reading/writing and the CDROM for use to copy CD to CD and the LS120 to be my 'A' drive.

OK, the HDD cables to the RAID port on the M/b as 'master' so do I put the CDRW on the same as 'slave'?

Where do I cable the CDROM to?

The LS120 has a 40 pin connector so won't go in the FDD port and seems to use an IDE?

Constructive suggestions greatfully recieved about how I set this part of the system please!!

I would put the HDD on the Raid controller primary, then the cdrw on the Udma66 primary alone, then the cdrom and ls120 together on the udma 66 secondary. Im told by a friend with who owns one that the raid controller doesnt like to have a cdrom on it.

Ditto, also most CDRW's are supposed to be on a seperate cotroller from the hdd (that's if you didn't have a RAID controller for the hdd). Andy's setup allows the fastest recording you can possibly get by isolating the CDRW on it's own controller.

Ditto. I have virtually the same setup (different mobo but same device classes) and put one on each chain as masters. Put the ATA100 drive on the RAID, as well as the CDROM. LS-120 and CDRW go on the "main" channels, so you can boot from the LS120 if needed. If you do this, just make sure you route the cables around your case well enough as not to hinder airflow. 4 IDE cables can get a little messy http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
