I was given a 120 MHz Pentium, Packard Smell system, (I serious while ago I had good Packard Bells, but the proprietary architecture vs. my custom built machines blows my mind!) In any event, this machine has no physical memory. The 4 EDO slots are a tad over 4 inches eaxh in length. Can anyone kindly provide me an educated opinion as to the likely required "flavor" of EDO given its lenght? Are there other characteristics I can look for to determine the type of EDO this machine usez? Thank you very much!

"Just a tad over 4 inches in length"? Hmm? It sure sounds like standard 72pin SIMMs to me. I have heard that there were some early Packard Bell and Compaq that used an odd size SIMM but I have not seen any. the last couple of PBs I worked on were a P90 and a 486 and both used standard 72 pin SIMMs - but the 486 could only use FPM not EDO.
Yours may take FPM or EDO, probably it will work with either. Usually there is a serial number or model number on these computers that can help you in determining the kind of memory you need. You may be able to do a search at www.kingston.com (http://www.kingston.com)
If you have some old 72pin SIMMs laying around you may want to pop them in and test it out. Remember; Pentium systems use SIMMs in matching pairs.

look on the back of the case for the s/n # then go to packaerd bells web site www.packardbell.com (http://www.packardbell.com)
then support if you look you will come to a page that ask's for the S/N # of your system follow the directions and you can get all the info you need about it. some older systems you might have to input the S/N # and the model # and then go back in a few hr's while the get the info online but I've never had a problem getting info on Old Packard smell's that way http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif video driver upgrades, bios updates,
mobo, info you name it.
I'll make it easy for you heres the page you want http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://support.packardbell.com/default.asp?1 then click on this ( Find System information customized for your computer )
