I have a AMD K6 266 in an Asus board ( a T2P5 I think) and would like to
replace it with a Pentium 266. Can I just switch CPU s and restart or is it
more complicated than that. Thanks.

You can probably just switch, but check your m/b manual or any info that might be printed directly on the board. You might need to change a jumper or two. I used to have a board that ran either my K6/166 or Pmmx/166 just by swapping the CPUs. But with a Cyrix CPU or IBM CPU I needed to change a few jumpers.

The most important setting to make sure you have correct is the voltage. Too much voltage (and not enough cooling) will kill a CPU pretty quick.

Iīm sorry, but you really CAN NOT! The K6 and PII is not alike, like the K6 and classic or MMX Pentium.
You need to buy antoher motherboard. The PII is a Slot1 CPU, and the K6 is a Scoket7 CPU.
They donīt mix.

Yeah, I thought the pentiums stopped at 233mmx, hmmmm. I'd just get a K6/2, maybe a 300 or higher... (350, 400....)

Sorry, I didn't see PII anywhere and had forgotten that 233 was the highest mmx.

Hey FROG: Check your mother board web site to see if you can update the bios. Then see which processors are supported. I'd stay with AMD. Then you can get the largest( fastest)
one that will work. I myself am waiting til AMD comes out with the new 18 micron processors before I update. Well worth looking into. Best of Luck
