With respect to issue number 2 if you remove the cmoc battery on your motherboard for a few minutes this will remove the password, it will also remove any other changes you made in the bios so you will have to change them back.

The cmos battery looks like a watch battery, its silver and flat normally. If you carefully take it out, leave it out for a few minutes so all the power drains from the motherboard, and then replace the battery.

If it doesnt remove the password, take it out again and leave it out for longer.

Hope this helps.

rkpye5,

What type of pc is it?

There might be a dallas real time clock chip. Also on some older system's the battery is connected via leads, it could be about an inch cube size.

All the best, Justy.

A few password's to try,

AWARD_PW

AWARD_SW

AWARD_WG

The battery should be about 2 inches from your keyboard connector close to the back of your system, just behind your first PCI slot. It is a silver disc and is about the size of a 25c coin.

All the best,Justy.

Thank you, Justy! I found the battery! I have been looking all day for it and haven't been able to find it. When I got all the ribbons out of the way there it was! I'm going to leave it out for about an hour then try to get in.

Issue #1 - My computer stopped booting! It gets almost there and then it tells me that Explorer has performed an illegal operation and then I can't go any further then there is issue #2...
Issue #2 is I have my recovery disk and I was going to start all over because I am giving this computer to my daughter. When I got to the CMOS set up I tried to put in my password and it won't take it. I have a password book that I keep them all in. I then started doing some research and found out that I could short the jumpers and clear the CMOS. However, I have Plug and Play and apparently this doesn't work. Maybe you can tell me different. Also, if it is possible to short the jumper which one is it? I have the user's manual and the jumper's that everyone is saying is used to clear the CMOS is used to set the speed? I don't know. I need to get this done ASAP and your help is GREATLY appreciated.
