spec.
OS-Win98SE, P2 450, 128 ram, v3300, 8.4gigs(bad cluster problem).
I'm going to add new HD(20 gigs) and set it as primary and the old HD as slave.
I need to know step by step how to copy old HD data to a new HD(faster) that wont mess up with Windows setting or bootup and erase old HD data. I'm planning to use old HD to store junk file.
thank..

What kind of HDD is the new one? Most come with software to clone your old drive, if it didnt come with software, check their website for some. Or use Nortons Ghost or similar cloning programs.

If your 8.4 drive is still under guarantee you should RMA it.

as for your question, use Norton's Ghost.

once i create an image file do have to back it up in cd-r and extracted from there. if it from cd-r, how would i access to my cd-rom in dos. Does cloning copy bad cluster from the old HD and place in a new one.
one more thing someone told me that u can use copy c:*.* to new HD d:*.* in dos mode then switch it. and erase c:. I was wodering does it mess up my software in window and window itself.

You can go the the Western Digital site and download their EZ Bios, it will do a good job copying from one hdd to another. It works with most drives (doesn't have to be a Western Digital drive). I used it on a Seagate and Maxtor, it worked flawleesly.
